What Happens at a Direct Cremation?
With our direct cremations – also referred to as basic cremation, simple cremation, unattended cremation, cremation without ceremony or a ‘pure’ cremation – the deceased will always be cremated locally. This will either take place at Sedgemoor or Weston-super-Mare crematorium, after which the ashes will be handed to the family of the deceased.
While there is no traditional ceremony or attendance by mourners in the Weston-super-Mare crematorium chapel, we still offer the option for family and friends to arrange a separate service or celebration of life event should they wish to. How Much is a Direct Cremation?
Our direct cremations cost £995. This cost includes collection of the deceased from their place of rest (within a 20-mile radius of Weston-super-Mare), and a simple, environmentally-friendly coffin for the cremation.'
How Much is an Attended Direct Cremation?
Our attended direct cremations cost £1240. This service gives mourners the chance to attend a ceremony in the Crematorium Chapel, where they are free to share memories, read poems, and reflect on the life of the deceased together.
After the Cremation
What Happens to the Ashes After a Direct Cremation?
After a direct cremation, the ashes will always be given back to the family of the deceased, who can then decide what they feel is best in terms of scattering or keeping the ashes.
At C V Gower, we offer the option of scattering the ashes in the Garden of Remembrance at the Crematorium. You can also have them interred in a new or existing plot at the local cemetery or churchyard if you’d like to have a special place for you and your loved ones to visit.
Alternatively, you can scatter the ashes at another place of your choosing. It’s important to note that you might need to seek the landowner’s permission to scatter ashes, depending on where you choose. We are always happy to offer our guidance on this if you need it.
There is also the option to arrange an attended cremation with our team at C V Gower, if you’d like to have a ceremony included in your cremation service.
