Understanding Funeral Costs

An Overview of Funeral Costs in Long Ashton

Prior to the funeral service, we will send you a fully itemised list of costs, divided into two sections: ‘our charges’ covers all the services we offer at C V Gower, while ‘disbursements’ are payments we make on your behalf to any relevant third parties, such as the Minister, the cemetery, or the florists.

Once you receive your estimate, just let us know if you’d like any changes to be made and we’ll take care of everything. We will also run through all the costs during your funeral arrangement interview to make sure everything is completely clear before any payments are made, and the final invoice will be sent to you shortly after the funeral.

We understand that there may be situations where funding is an issue. The last thing we want is to add any more stress to this difficult time, and we are always here to offer our guidance if you’re in need of applying for some extra financial support to help you through the funeral process. If the deceased’s next of kin qualified for a benefit such as income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit, job seeker’s allowance, disabled person’s tax credit, or working family’s tax credit, you may be able to contact your local Department of Work and Pensions for some assistance with funeral payments.

How Much Does a Funeral Cost?

At C V Gower, we are dedicated to ensuring each funeral service is uniquely tailored to the needs and wants of the deceased’s family and loved one. The exact costs of each service will vary slightly depending on what exactly is involved, but our attended funeral service with a simple coffin starts from £1850 plus disbursements, while the unattended direct cremation service will cost £995.

You can take as much time as you need to come to a decision on the kind of service you’d like, and we are always available to discuss anything that you’d like to and offer our advice to make sure you’re satisfied with your service.

What to Expect at a Funeral Service

Each and every funeral service is unique, but traditionally, a funeral service will begin with mourners gathering at the chosen church, crematorium, or cemetery, with a welcome conducted by the Celebrant or Minister.

There will often be a eulogy or life story, reflecting on and remembering the life of the deceased, possibly followed by music, poems, moments of silence, or anything else that the family would like to include, such as customary religious practices or spiritual rituals.

The service often concludes with any final words or blessings, before the mourners are led from the chapel and into the floral tribute area, where they can then talk with other attendees.

Pam Ball, Towerhead Banwell 11th February 2024

Catherine Cotter, Blagdon 9th February 2024

"Lindsay and her team are outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. They ( and especially Lindsay) were kind, compassionate, respectful and efficient. We had a family cremation, church Celebration of Life service and wake on the same day. Everything went as we hoped it would. Thank you Lindsay. You made a difficult time easier to cope with and took a weight from our shoulders."

L Simmons. Axbridge 28th January 2024

"Losing my mum was the hardest thing I have ever faced, but Lindsay from C V Gower made the whole process feel like I was not alone. From the first call, when I explained the need to bring my mum home from Hampshire to Somerset, her response was not a problem. She handled the coroner’s office and the GP with efficiency, keeping me informed while all the time respecting my grief. C V Gower’s dedication extended beyond the logistics of bringing my mum home - I wanted a church service for my mum and then a cremation and Lindsay and her team ensured the two services were seamless. They also arranged for a piper to play at my Mum's funeral; they located a company to stream the service on-line for distant friends and family; and even helped me locate the venue for the wake. Nothing was too much for Lindsay, whether it was offering advice during a difficult moment or breaking the tension with a well-timed joke. On the day of the funeral, Lindsay and her team were a great support, guiding us through each step with sensitivity and respectfulness. I cannot thank them enough, and I would not hesitate to recommend C V Gower to anyone facing a similar loss."

Rachel Forsey, Langford 22nd January 2024

"Gowers made sure that every wish we had for Dad’s funeral was met and made sure that nothing was too much trouble and no request too unusual. Lindsey organised everything beautifully making a pretty horrible task as stress free as possible. We could not have asked for more and would wholeheartedly recommend Gowers to anyone."
